BMW Championship 2022 preview, TV times and free golf betting tips

Tipster Barry Plummer is off the back of a small profit from the FedEx St Jude Championship, so can he make it two weeks in a row? Let’s find out

Following Tony Finau’s much overdue win in the first of the 2021 FedEx Cup Playoffs, it was much of the same last week with Will Zalatoris finally getting over the line. The 125 is chopped to 70 who travel to Delaware for the second leg, the BMW Championship, and I have found three top tips that I believe can put themselves in prime position for East Lake. But before I get to my free golf betting tips…

BMW Championship details

Venue: Wilmington Country Club, Delaware, USA

Date: August 18-21, 2022

Course stats: Par 71; 7,534 yards

Course summary: This long, heavily-bunkered track is a real test for the remaining players, with fast greens and narrow landing areas. Ball striking is at a premium, as is creativity and consistency around the greens. The winner here will need their A-game, which is to be expected when playing for such a big prize.

Purse: $15,000,000

Defending champion: Patrick Cantlay (-27)

BMW Championship golf betting tips

Bazza’s Banker: Scottie Scheffler @ 14/1 with Bet365

After an underwhelming performance in last week’s event, this may seem like a strange time to play the World No 1, but I cannot resist him after checking out his stats.

Scheffler has been magnificent this year, with four wins including his maiden major at the Masters. He will be targeting a strong finish in this to give him a great chance at East Lake, and this course should suit him better than that of last week.

In the last three months, the American ranks 10th for SG: Off-the-Tee, 2nd for SG: Approach, and 2nd for SG: Tee-to-Green. That standard of ball striking will put him in contention, that is providing that he can get the putter firing as it was back in April.

His recent form is what boosts his price slightly, and that is why I am prepared to take a punt with a little bit of rare Scheffler value on offer.

The Each-Way Play: Sung-jae Im @ 25/1 with Bet365

Im arrives in Delaware off the back of some great recent performances, including when runner-up in consecutive starts. Five top-15 finishes in his last eight are enough encouragement for me to side with him in a small field event, and while this would certainly be his biggest win to date, he has has managed to bank some solid finishes in major championships in recent times.

In the last three months, Im ranks 6th for SG: Off-the-Tee and 11th for SG: Tee-to-Green, emphasising the ball striking prowess he possesses.

Similarly to Scheffler, Im will need his best stuff with the putter this week but considering he has a win in each of his last four seasons, this would be a great moment to keep that run going.

The (other) Each-Way Play: Cameron Young @ 25/1 with Bet365

Usually I would reserve this spot for a big priced longshot selection, but this week it very much feels like the cream will rise to the top. Therefore, in a change of tactics, I am going to dive in on Young who could follow in the footsteps of Zalatoris to claim a huge maiden win this week.

Young has been on fire this season, finishing runner-up at The Open and third at the PGA Championship. Three other runner-up finishes, along with a total of seven top 10s, make it clear to see why Young will be so popular this week.

In the last three months, Young also ranks 1st for SG: Off-the-Tee and 9th for SG: Tee-to-Green, which is why he is definitely my favourite ‘third pick’ of the season.
