England Golf issues guidance to clubs in wake of the death of the Queen

The governing body has offered advice to clubs and organisations following the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

Clubs and counties across the country have been invited to show a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Acknowledging that clubs and members would have questions at “how best to approach this time”, given the depth of feeling in the golfing community at Her Majesty, The Queen’s loss, England Golf gave advice in a statement, issued in conjunction with the Golf Club Managers’ Association: “England Golf, its counties and clubs were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday evening.

“Our collective thoughts remain with the Royal Family during this difficult time.

“As a Patron of England Golf, we know Her Majesty’s loss will be felt deeply throughout the golfing community and that many counties, clubs and members will have questions about how best to approach this time.

“As per the government’s guidance that has been published today, there is no formal obligation for organisations/clubs to cancel or postpone sporting fixtures or events.

“Instead, it is at the discretion of individual organisations and clubs to consider how they should proceed during the mourning period.

“England Golf will continue to host planned championships over the weekend, which will include a mark of respect in the form of a minute’s silence to be held during presentations over the weekend.

“Both the Union Jack and St George’s flag have been lowered to half-mast at The National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa. We invite clubs and counties across the country to show a mark of respect as and how they deem appropriate.

“Regarding communications, we have posted an official message of condolence on our social media channels as well as a note from our CEO Jeremy Tomlinson and changed our channels and website to a black overlay. We will communicate further updates once we have more detail of funeral arrangements.
