Callaway Stormfleece Pro Jacket review

It’s big, it’s bold, and rather aptly named, it’s stormproof. Hooked already? That’s only the start of this waterproof jacket’s packed CV

Callaway’s apparel range is vast, comprehensive and continually impresses the masses. The Callaway Stormfleece Pro Jacket is one of their latest autumn winter pieces. So how does it perform?

NCG SUMMARY

The Callaway Stormfleece Pro Jacket is an absolute beast for wearing during torrid conditions. You wouldn’t picture a piece like this with freedom of movement and a non-restricted swing.

I’d recommend this jacket to anyone who is tired of being the unfortunate victim of golf course rain showers and vicious crosswinds. For the price, it’s a solid investment.

First Impressions

The Callaway Stormfleece has a military-grade styling, similar to the Callaway Premium Puffer Vest, especially if you get it in caviar as I did. The purpose of the Stormfleece is similar to Stuburt’s Evolution-Tech Padded Jacket; it’s wind and water-resistant and has thermal properties. There is also a chin guard for maximum protection against the elements.

Although Callaway has assured me that it won’t restrict my movement, it does look bulky. That’s understandable, given it’s name, but if it’s going to affect performance, we’ll have an issue.

On-course testing

There is a handy size chart on Callaway Apparel’s website if you’re struggling to decide what size to go for, but I take a small size in more or less all tops. I found it fitted pretty much perfectly; there was no excess baggage or overly tight fittings throughout the golf jacket.

I instantly liked about this was how thick, and warm the Singtex Stormfleece fabric is, making it ideal for chilly days out on the course. So what is this Stormfleece technology all about? Simply put, it’s a type of fabric that combines a wind and rain-resistant outer layer with a soft, warm inner. So you’ll stay dry on the outside whilst remaining totally warm on the inside.

There’s more good news. It’s got some neat technology built in too. Swing Tech technology offers noticeably less restriction to your swing than other jackets, thanks to stretchy fabrics. Extreme comfort all over! There are two spacious side pockets that’ll keep your hands cosy too.

With it being a full zip jacket, it gives the wearer the option to unzip if they become overly warm throughout their round. At this time of the year, that is unlikely, but I did notice the Stormfleece does trap a lot of heat within its fleece-lined interior, so for some people, that might come in handy.

The 19th hole

This piece screams ‘protect me from the elements’ left, right and centre, and it’s a very viable option for winter golf. The thickness of this makes it ideal for wearing on cold, rainy days when you’re out playing. Name a form of weather that it won’t shield you from, go on?

Having said that, when the weather gets really cold, it could be great to pop under a coat to keep you warm. Just make sure said coat isn’t on the small side, as the Stormfleece is a bit of a beast.
