His playing days might be a thing of the past, but Greg Norman still possesses a bit of the old magic and this was on show at one of Australia’s most famous golf courses
It is 2023 and Greg Norman is 68 years old – but he is still capable of making golf fans jump out of their seats with excitement.
His playing days are over with his full undivided attention dedicated to LIV Golf and its battle for supremacy with the PGA Tour.
But, he still retains a bit of the magic that won him two major championships and 331 weeks spent as World No 1 – if this evidence is anything to go by.
In footage posted on Twitter by Golf Digest’s Evin Priest, Norman was playing at the stunning Royal Melbourne, taking aim at the par-3 5th hole on the West Course.
The LIV boss performed another one of those all-too recognisable swings and waited for his ball to hit the green.
As further footage shows attached to this video, Norman’s ball landed short of the pin before lipping out for a hole-in-one.
Other golfers stood by the putting surface gasped as Norman almost achieved what every player longs for – using a rental set of clubs I hasten to add.
Perhaps Norman was providing a taste of things to come as he prepares to host a LIV Golf event for the first time down under.
The Saudi-financed league heads to the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide next week – where tens of thousands of Australian golf fans are expected to come through the gates.
The likes of Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, and Patrick Reed performed valiantly for LIV Golf at the Masters, but no doubt the locals will flock to see Cameron Smith and Ripper GC back on home turf.
