The full list of golfers to lift the famous trophy

The US Open is one of golf’s four biggest tournaments and one that can define a player’s career.

A large proportion of the game’s most memorable moments have been created at the US Open by the best players to ever pick up a club.

The first US Open was held at Newport Country Club in Rhode Island in 1895 and it was won by Englishman Horace Rawlins.

The first American to lift their national trophy was John McDermott in 1911 after a period of dominance from English and Scottish players.

Gary Player became the first international player to win the tournament at Bellerive Country Club in 1965. This was Player’s only win at the event.

Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus have all won the US Open four times each, while Tiger Woods and Hale Irwin have three victories to their name.

The list of US Open champions is a long and illustrious one, but who will join it and taste victory at Los Angeles Country Club in 2023?
